"Mujer Del Este De Los Angeles" gets buffed

Today, “Mujer Del Este De Los Angeles” by George Yepes was painted over. Located on the 101N freeway, near the 4th Street exit, this mural was created in 1989 as symbol of harmony between cultures. Instances like this, where lack of information about mural policy leads to destruction of historical landmarks is exactly why the new mural ordinance must be passed.

New INSA mural in L.A. Arts District

If you happen to be in the Downtown L.A. Arts District this week, you may notice that the building on the corner of S. Hewitt St. & E. 4th Pl. was just given a face lift. British street artist INSA painted three sides of the building with his signature style inspired by women's heels.

BloomFEST LA

Presented at 3rd Street and Traction Avenue in the Downtown Arts District, BloomfestLA offers live indie music, local artisan wares, and good food amidst a rotating outdoor gallery of street art by renowned artists. The community event is organized in partnership with the Los Angeles River Artist & Business Association (LARABA), a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the Downtown Arts District.

Estria Invitational Graffiti Battle

The Estria Invitational Graffiti Battle: Los Angeles will take place on Saturday, August 13, 2011 on 110 Winston St. in front of Crewest, from 12-6pm. 12 artists will be competing for a chance to advance to the final battle in Oakland, CA this fall. In addition to the Graffiti Battle, a Black Book Battle will be happening simultaneously and will hold three categories – Youth (12-21), Adult (21+), and a Women’s only division. To participate in the Black Book Battle you must sign up the day of the event. The first 30 to sign up will receive a Crescent Graffiti Paper Sketch Pad to use in the battle, (all supplies will be provided to participants).

From 1940-1980 numerous murals were created by African Americans in Los Angeles. The Mural Conservancy of Los Angeles (MCLA) has created a Virtual Mural Tour for the California African American Museum (CAAM) as part of the Places of Validation, Art & Progression exhibition (a Getty's PST initiative).

Please join us in the unveiling of "Organic Stimulus," a mural by Ernesto de la Loza. Sunday, March 11th, 2012 at 10:00 am. The ceremony will take place in front of "Organic Stimulus," at the Estrada Courts: 3240 Olympic Blvd., Los Angeles 90023. After the ceremony, a free community art worshop will be provided by Mobile Mural Lab.

Siqueiros' influential mural "America Tropical", conserved by The Getty Conservation Institute, on view to the public on October 9th 2012

LOS ANGELES—América Tropical, the only surviving public mural by David Alfaro Siqueiros in the United States still in its original location, is set to open to the public on October 9, 2012, 80 years after the mural was first painted by Siqueiros.
