A native of New Jersey, Jensen studied painting and drawing at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. After graduating, she moved to Los Angeles in 1979, and for several years worked as a scenic artist for the movies. During a lull in about 1988, she showed her portfolio to several local designers. Almost imediately she began receiving commissions for murals in private residences in the Pasadena and Valencia areas.
