Roderick Sykes believed in the power of art as a means of social change. He helped co-found the St. Elmo Village, an art center in the mid-Wilshire area. He has taught painting, drawing and photography and often works with children to create murals in schools. (Source: Robin K. Dunitz, Street Gallery, Guide to over 1000 Los Angeles Murals)
