Description / Interpretation:

Chicano identity within the context of war, cultural imperialism, urbanization, economic exploitation, and miscegenation. The central image is a larger-than-life Chicana rising from the embers and the dizzying forces from which she was born. She embodies the resistance and vitality of the local community. The youth assistants did the aerosol piece facing the back of the building. the Photo: © Robin Dunitz
