Scottish Rite Masonic Temple, exterior east side. Sheets designed the whole complex, including the building itself, the sculptures (with Albert Stewart), mosaics and painted murals. The theme of the exterior mosaic is the history of temple building, from the days of King Solomon to 19th century California. Another mosaic, inside the auditorium's foyer, continues with the story of Freemasonry in California. The world's great law-givers are depicted in ceramic and mosaic along two walls inside the auditorium. In addition, there is a mural of ancient trees in the main reading room, as well as others in the top floor dining room. Access to the building's interior is usually limited to members of the fraternal group.
