“Mural mission statement: As downtown experiences it revitalization, the "Lady of DTLA" rises from the ground line and appears on the wall as if to reclaim the city. She is as symbol of light and strength, pointing to herself as if to say "this is my downtown" and her other hand is out-streched wrapping around the bend of the building, welcoming people driving south on Spring street, into the historic core. She is painted in values of black & white as reference to the historic architecture surrounding her and framed with a brilliant gold as a nod to classic religious Icon paintings without the literal reference i.e. halo, but rather suggesting an aura around her, painted in a expressive manner making it contemporary. She is a celebration of life & love here in downtown poised to host this new incarnation of DTLA into the future.” (Robert Vargas 7/27/13).
