Description / Interpretation:
This mural honors the one hundred-year history of African American firefighters in Los Angeles's fire service. Welcoming the community with an image of two full uniform firefighters next to the entrance of the African American Firefighter Museum. The museums mission is to educate and promote equality for all ethnicities and genders. The AAFFM is located in Fire Station #30, one of two segregated fire stations in Los Angeles from 1924 to 1955. The opening of the museum in 1997 commemorated the first one hundred years of service by African American Firefighters in Los Angeles from 1897 to 1997. Photo © Ian Robertson-Salt. www.aaffmuseum.org
