(1900-1964): At the age of 17 the italian-born Lebrun earned a diploma from the National Institute in Naples. In 1924 he immigrated to Illinois to design stained glass, but soon moved to New York City to become a commercial artist. Success didn't satisfy him, and in 1934 he decided he would rather be a fine artist. He worked for the Federal Art Project in New York as a muralist and taught at the Art Students League. In 1938 he moved to southern California, where initially he gave classes at Chouinard, then worked with animators at Disney Studios on Bambi. His paintings also began to receive recognition, including local and national awards. He had many one-man shows throughout the United States.
