M. Carla Carr was born in the Chicagoland area in 1971. Carla received her double Bachelor of Arts degree (1993) from Creighton University areas of study painting and psychology.  She earned her Master of Arts degree (1999) from Governors State University with a concentration in painting and printmaking. At the age of 25, she went abroad to study under the guidance of international artist Kathleen Scarboro in France. In 2005 Carla earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting and drawing from Northern Illinois University.  At Northern Illinois University Carla studied “Technique Mixte”, an adaptation of a 16th century Flemish painting technique, under the direction of Professor Patrick Betaudier. 

Carla is currently an Instructor of Art / Humanities in the Visual & Performing Arts Department of Olive-Harvey College. Carla is an accomplished project manager, public art muralist and freelance artist. The art of Carla Carr has been included in numerous exhibitions in venues such as, Anacostia Museum: Smithsonian Institute, The National Museum of Mexican Fine Art, Museum of Science & Industry of Chicago, Field Museum of Chicago among numerous other institutions
